Kuusisto culture and nature trail

Kuusisto culture and nature trail

The trail is 3.2 km long and it rises through the spruce woods up to the lookout point on Kappelinmäki hill. The view over the landscape, from the fields and forests down to the sea is spectacular. The route continues down toward the castle ruins. Along the trail, there is information about the vegetation, birdlife and history of the area. The Natura 2000 area of Kuusistonlahti bay provides excellent opportunities for birdwatching. Next to the castle ruins, you will find a campfire site and an outdoor toilet.

  • The ruins of the medieval Bishop’s Castle in Kuusisto are protected by virtue of the Antiquities Act, but you are allowed to move about the area with consideration and respect for the historical ruins.
  • To reach the area from road number 110, turn to Saaristotie road and continue up to Tammisto Center and then turn left onto Linnanrauniontie road. Continue until you see the parking lot on your left (marked with P signs). This is where the public road ends. From the parking lot, you can take the path to the nature trail, or you can walk along the road to Kuusisto Manor or further to the Bishop’s Castle ruins.
